The “MY MISSY BO” Story

With nearly 200 AQHA points, My Missy Bo is a special horse. She is one of those rare horses that was simply born to show and loves to ride. Her life would be miserable in a field, as Missy absolutely loves people and riding. She is very happy in her stall and packing young riders around the arena during lessons.

The problems we faced with Missy were her age and issues. You see, she is now 22 years old, had one foal years ago that did quite a bit of damage at birth, and was navicular at around 7 years of age. She had surgery to relieve the pain of Navicular disease and that leads to important care of her feet and legs. When we wanted to put Missy in our lesson program to give people the opportunity to ride such a great horse (not many get the chance to learn on a horse like My Missy Bo), we had to deal with her issues of keeping her healthy and happy. After all, at age 20 at the time she entered our program, she needed to be in a quality, clean environment that prevented normal indoor heated barn issues from creating problems in an older horse. Our facility is all heated for year round use and, as all of us know, a heated barn usually smells awful with ammonia…no matter how clean you keep the stalls. This ammonia odor is very dangerous to not only people, but to horses as well. In particular, older horses can develop major problems from this ammonia odor. So, our problem was laid out before us…how do we keep the ammonia odor down in our facility to protect our customers and our horses – especially Missy?

We started our research and were quickly led to Zeotech Corporation in Fort Worth, TX. They had research, testing and more research and testing on ammonia dangers and removal. After discussions with Ronnie Coufal, VP of Sales at Zeotech, about our dilemma, we decided to try ZeQuine in our new facility. WOW! The ammonia odor does not exist and a side benefit that we did not expect is the much drier stalls. My Missy Bo can thrive in our environment…with no ammonia odor affecting her breathing and an extremely dry stall for excellent foot and leg health, she can live her life comfortably doing what she loves…and deserves.

In fact, Missy was so healthy that we took her to an AQHA show at age 20 and she won the youth western pleasure and horsemanship earning another 4 points! At age 21, she went to the Regional Experience-Region 4-in Columbus, Ohio and finished in the top 5 in youth trail. At her age, with her issues, she should NOT be at this level still. We believe that ZeQuine has allowed My Missy Bo to continue to thrive and be such an important part of our whole program at P5 Equestrian.

Watch for more information on My Missy Bo and how she continues teaching people to ride and show. At age 22, she still gives up to 3 lessons each day, 6 days a week…loving every minute of it!
